I’m Colin Moffat, the founder of Fread. I’ve spent the last six years building payments infrastructure for Canadian fintechs. That work taught me how to ship technology that holds up when it matters, and it’s the standard I bring to every business Fread works with.

I’m a full stack software engineer with a Bachelor of Computing (Honours) from the University of Guelph. Since 2019 I’ve worked across the Canadian fintech stack, at KOHO, Synctera, Chexy, and Float.
Payments infrastructure became my specialty. I’ve built live payment rails for sending and receiving money over EFT, ACH, and wires. I’ve designed custom ledgers for multiple companies. I’ve done direct integrations with Visa, Stripe, and Plaid, and I’ve led infrastructure overhauls to get systems ready for banking partnerships.
It’s the kind of engineering where a bug isn’t an inconvenience, it’s someone’s money. You learn to be careful, to test what you ship, and to build systems other people can trust and maintain.

Over the last few years the way work gets done has changed, and most small businesses haven’t had anyone in their corner helping them take advantage of it.
I kept meeting capable, busy people running good businesses while buried in work that software should be doing for them. Fread exists to give them eye opening moments: the first time a tedious process runs on its own, the first time a week’s worth of work takes an afternoon.
I don’t sell tools or hype. I bring the discipline I learned in payments, where security, ownership, and measurable outcomes are non-negotiable, and point it at the work slowing you down.
